When you take a pulse induction metal detector to a tourist beach in Florida, it helps if you know the hot spots. This past weekend I took my new Minelab SDC 2300 to a few local beach sites within walking distance of each other. The small beach entrances have very few parking spaces, but they do see quite a few people using the beach and swimming opposite the entrances.
My plan was to wade and metal detect in the shallow water opposite all four small beach entrances. I found several coins and a gold ring water hunting at each of the first three entrances, and hoped to keep the gold steak going at the final small beach site. I thought I had pushed my luck too far, with a bottle cap and a hair pin being my only finds at the last site.
Wading over towards the sand bar I heard a faint break in the threshold, stopped to investigate and started to scoop. Two scoops later I saw this magnificent platinum engagement ring with a 1.5 carat diamond in my scoop.
You never know what you are going to see in your scoop when you use the SDC 2300 on the beach or in the water, but you do know that you are not going to miss any metal target your search coil passes over.
I know my SDC 2300 is sensitive to very small pieces of jewellery, if you can find small gold, you can find large gold, or in this case three gold rings and a $10,00.00 diamond ring!
