Couldn't Miss It

13 Sep 2010

I finally had a chance to hunt an old site that I had been to in the 1980's. It is an old home in town that had been converted to an eye clinic in 1910. Due to different owners over the years, hunting wasn't allowed. I approached the new owners and was given permission to hunt. It looked like the place had been filled in when they expanded it in the early 90's. I only found three wheat cents that day, but one of them was a key date 1914D. I almost didn't dig it, because I had been digging pop caps all morning. I couldn't take a chance of missing an Indian Head Cent in this old yard. While recovering the 1914D, I also found a pop cap two inches higher than the penny and a little off of center. This is the reason for the unusual ID of 7-27. Needless to say I was excited about the find. I'll be back there again soon. B. Day - Illinois, USA
