Best Days Detecting Yet!!

26 Apr 2012

Since taking up detecting, my finds rate had been terrible with only a few coins dated 1807 and a couple of odd artifacts in the last year since September. I was using an inferior machine at the time and was getting a bit disheartened, was itching to find something of decent age. Then came the chance to purchase the Minelab Explorer SE which I had read reviews about and was interested with the FBS technology. Having been out a few times now with the Explorer SE, I have built up the confidence to use it full time and decided to use it on the next club rally. So the day came and was wondering what I might find (or not) from the pasture land we was searching. After about an hour, I had a target that gave me a signal that I thought was going to be a Bronze Victorian coin but to my surprise as I turned out the plug, in the bottom of the hole was a roman Fibula !!! I could not believe it, after thinking I was going to pick up a 1900's coin. Amazed I showed my fellow searchers and everyone congratulated me on the find. Now I was truly converted to the Explorer SE !! I went back to the area that I found the Fibula and began to search again, about 3 swings into my search I get a nice tone and start to dig. Pulled out the plug of sandy soil and started to root around for the target. OMG !! there looking back at me was a Barberous Radiate !! Not far off the date of the Fibula. Now the day had just gone from great to amazing with both of the finds made within half an hour of each other.
