Another Bronze Age Hoard

06 Aug 2016

Kevin and I went to the area where we found a Bronze Age hoard in 2015. We had decided to widen our search area. After a while, I found a pocket spill of 3 pennies and a 1939 sixpence, but nothing else. Kevin noticed that the reed bed had dried up enough to hunt. So we gave it a try. After a short time Kevin shouted me over he had found a Spearhead. I swung off the hole another signal. So we went in with the pointers and we were finding spearheads and fragments. Then Kevin found a Socket axe head then another and ended up with 4 axe heads, many spearheads and fragments. These were all in one hole. So could be a Votive (offering to the Gods). After nearly 2 hours of digging with our hands, pointers and our stainless hand diggers we exhausted the finds. We were black soaked and nettled to death but enjoyed every minute. We both use CTX 3030s and love them. Here’s a picture of the finds and the reed bed. The last one is Kev and I with our CTXs.
