I have just been on a wading trip with a guy I met on my 'Combing the Coast' Facebook page. He is a commercial diver and does lots of land detecting. He wanted to get into beach and water hunting; I do loads of beach and water detecting and he asked if he could come on a wading trip abroad with me to see what it's all about.
We both have Excalibur II's and I have hunted this part of Spain several times before with good success. Steve was very competent in the water so it was a pleasure to have someone to hunt with. It's always more fun when there is someone to share the good times of detecting with and it works out much cheaper to split the cost of car hire, room etc., between two people.
We had a week of detecting with the Excalibur's and to be honest it was great.
We waded for 4 hours a day on average, we found 7 gold rings and 90 Euros between us. All told we found about 20 junk/silver rings and earrings.
One time I was digging a target and I pulled up a live crab in my scoop! Another time a drunk lady waded over and started asking what I was looking for. I showed her a ring pull and said I was hunting for coins etc. She took the ring pull from me and asked if I had any more! I said sure and handed over my bag full of ring pulls, apparently her friend makes bags out of them and sells them for a living! Could be a lucrative side line.....
I just weighed my 4 gold rings, £520 worth of gold plus 65 euros means I made a slight profit out of a week in the sun, and made a new friend and detecting partner as well. What a great hobby detecting is.
I love my Excalibur II and I know that Steve had a great time and is very glad he has bought one. He used to hunt with a PI machine, and he said he wishes he bought an Excalibur when he first started out detecting. This was his first trip away with his Excalibur II and 3 gold rings to show for it! Double thumbs up from us, thank you Minelab!
