A Portuguese find in New York

13 Aug 2012

I'm new to metal detecting, Being my second week with my E-TRAC I've found a few coins and a couple of old civil war buttons but today I really hit it big.

At first I thought it was an old token badge of a machine, but once I cleaned it up a little I saw the letters ET ALG REX. So I ran that on Google and it turns out it's a Portuguese coin dated 1720. Try it yourself and see how excited I must have been!

Now my house was built in 1840, and the town was settled in 1712 and was attacked by the English and their Indian followers in order to disrupt the settlements and the food we provided to the Revolutionists.

I'd like to know if anyone has some input on how that coin may have made it to my backyard. Thanks Minelab!
