18th century watch key

23 Feb 2017

Hunting a beach in Lewes Delaware I found a watch key from an 18th century shipwreck. This beach was replenished with sand, dredged up from the Delaware Bay in 2004. A portion of a previously unknown shipwreck was dredged up and artifacts deposited on the beach. To date, over 56,000 artifacts have been recovered from that beach. Even though it has been 13 years since this happened, I found this artifact after a storm removed more sand.
