When it has your name on it...

It was a hot summers day in WA when I decided to go for a swing in an area 20 mins from town that has been done to death with detectors ever since they were introduced. It was once a rich area I'm sure but today its geney sub gram pieces scattered widely. It was 47 on the temp gauge and I had a big swig of water and decided to walk across a ridge line towards the car and go home for the day. As I was walking along in a daze dreaming of a cool beverage I got a signal I never had before , one I had heard about but never encountered, the long wide soft signal. At first I thought ground noise but then realised it was only in that area, I scraped off about an inch of leaf litter and dirt and the signal was still there and even more defined. At no point did I think I had gold as I'd never heard a signal like that, after digging down a few inches the signal was now overloading the coil like a big tin can. At the depth of my pick I was on my knees pulling the contents of the hole out with my hands when I encountered two rocks , as I pulled the big one out in my head I said 'geez I wonder if that's what it is' I checked the hole, no signal, check the rocks 'bang' the big one rung like a doorbell!. Still not knowing if I had gold I picked up the large 2kg piece of Quartz and rubbed the dirt off with my hand and noticed a glimmer of gold poking out! Still not really knowing how much gold it contained, I put it in my pouch on my belt and continued detecting (after filling in the hole of course!) and found a nice 3 grammar close by. It was about this time and limping around with a 2kg weight in my pouch I thought it's probably best to head back to the car and see what I've really got. When I washed her off, the pic is what I saw, hard to tell how much gold was in the Quartz but a specific gravity was anywhere from 5 ounces to 20 ounces. When I crushed it, it turned out to be 13.5 ounces of the good stuff! My best find ever! And in an area that's been hammered to death for many many years, when it has your name on it, it has your name on it!
